VANISHING POINT

Vanishing Point is the first solo exhibition by emerging Northern Rivers artist Andrea Portela Moreno. Her large-scale perspective paintings explore the vanishing point as a visual and conceptual point of mystery, questioning the hidden narratives that lie beyond the horizon.

Portela’s love of modern architecture along with minimalism, hard-edged abstraction and colour field theories form the foundation for her painting practice. She curiously explores the boundaries between the known and the unknown, and the visible and the invisible.

Visually, Portela communicates a form of ‘mental landscape’ through her own architectural language. Each composition includes a subtle alteration in perspective or colour that seeks to disrupt our interpretation of the image, and redefine the limits and understanding of our own perception of space.

The works in Vanishing Point challenge us to consider the possibilities that exist beyond the intersection of perspective lines and the limits of the traditional vanishing point. Portela’s enquiry places the vanishing point as the ultimate beginning of something else entirely - potentially unattainable yet completely and utterly enticing.
